Ashes Funeral Home – Abandoned House

In 2019, agents from the Department of Revenue arrested the owner of this funeral home on charges of tax evasion and operating without a license. For more than a year, the owner continued to operate his funeral home without a proper license despite being told several times about the process and receiving multiple violations. Agents stated the owner performed almost 40 funerals after his retail license was revoked. The owner owed nearly $100,000 for individual income tax and sales tax for nine years. When the IRS attempted to garnish the owner’s bank account, he withdrew more than $250,000 placing the money out of the government’s reach. In response, an arrest warrant was filed and agents showed up on the doorstep of the funeral home.

However, this was not the first time the owner had been in trouble with tax officials. According to court records, ten years prior the owner had been charged with tax evasion. In the earlier case, state officials accused the owner of not paying taxes for six years, dating back to 2000. In an unexpected turn of events, two years after agents arrested the owner, he suddenly passed away. His funeral was the last one conducted on the premises. Today, the former funeral home remains abandoned.
