The Best 30-Day Happiness Challenge You Have To Try

Obviously, your ultimate goal in life is to be as happy as possible. But what exactly are you doing about it? Are you doing something to make yourself happier? Or are you just waiting for happiness to knock on your door?

Well, it’s time to change this and here is the best way to do it. Here is a 30-day happiness challenge which will definitely make you feel better about yourself and which will help you improve the quality of your everyday life.

Day 1 – Start the day with your favorite song

Almost nobody likes to wake up early but sadly, this is probably a part of your daily routine. And one of the ways to make it a little more bearable is to start your day listening to your favorite song.

Day 2 – Go to bed earlier

You feel exhausted and tired all the time? Rearrange your day and go to bed earlier. Trust me—you’ll feel much more relaxed and more fresh.

Day 3 – Spend some time in nature

This is the day in which you find time to move away from the concrete jungle you spend all your time in. The day in which you spend some time in nature. You can go to a lake, to a distant beach or just to a nearby park. The point is to get in touch with nature all around you.

Day 4 – Go to a spa

It’s time to pamper yourself and to go to a spa. You can’t afford something like this? Not a problem! Take a bubble bath or a long, relaxing shower in the comfort of your own home. Decorate your bathroom with candles and have your partner or someone else close to you give you a relaxing massage.

Day 5 – Ignore all of your texts and phone calls

I am sure you can’t spend an entire day ignoring work-related calls and texts. But you can turn yourself off from everyone else. Just tell your friends and family that you need a day all to yourself and ask them not to contact you unless there is an emergency. This way, you’ll have an opportunity to look inside of yourself and to spend some time alone.

Day 6 – Spend a day with your best friend

Who can cheer you up better than your best friend? You want to brighten up your day? Well, she is the person you should call and hang out with. The two of you don’t have to do anything special—it will be more than enough to go to the nearest coffee shop and catch up.

Day 7 – Watch a movie you’ve wanted to watch for a while

Or your favorite movie you haven’t watched in ages. Or some random chick flick. Or a romantic comedy which will keep your mind off of your worries and troubles.

Day 8 – Start reading a book

Even though this would be great, nobody expects you to finish an entire book in a day. But be honest, when was the last time you spent some quality time reading? It’s time to change that and to start reading an inspiring book. Just make sure you finish it sometime soon.

Day 9 – Drive around by yourself

Driving around while listening to your favorite music helps you to take things off your mind. And this is exactly what you need from time to time. If you don’t have a car, taking a walk or riding a bike will give you the same effect and it will definitely help you feel much lighter.

Day 10 – Buy something for yourself

Remember those shoes you’ve been checking out for months but always had a more important expense to take care of? This is the day you will buy them. Can’t afford something this expensive? Never mind, just treat yourself with something small which will put a smile on your face.

Day 11 – Break your diet

How long has it been since you spent an entire day eating whatever the hell you wanted? Today is the day in which you break your diet. Feel like eating a cake or buying an ice cream? Go for it and don’t feel guilty for cheating. Just make sure you continue with your program starting tomorrow.

Day 12 – Meditate

Meditation has numerous benefits for your physical and mental health and you should definitely try it. Or you can try some yoga—whatever works for you. The point is for you to rest both your mind and your body and this is one of the best ways to do so.

Day 13 – No social media

I know you don’t want to admit this but let’s face it—you are pretty much obsessed with social media and somehow, this addiction has made you lose contact with reality. But you are someone who can control yourself and this is why you’ll do your best to spend an entire day without checking any social media.

Day 14 – Exercise

Yes, physical exercise will tire your body. But it will definitely relax your mind. It will help you get rid of all the stress and negative energy you have piled up inside yourself. Besides, it will also help you sleep better.

Day 15 – Write down 10 things you are good at

Self-love is the key to a happy life. But loving yourself doesn’t happen overnight and it is something you need to work on. The first step in doing this is writing 10 things you are good at. See that you have a lot to be proud of!

Day 16 – Take a nap

When you live a busy life, taking a nap in the middle of the day seems like a dream come true. And this is exactly what you’ll do today. Leave all of your obligations until later and take a long nap to restore your energy.

Day 17 – Do the thing you’ve been putting off for a while

Procrastinating makes you feel bad. And that is why today is the day in which you’ll finally get done something that you’ve been putting off. This might even be something which makes you unhappy but trust me—knowing that you’ve finally taken a worry out of your mind does miracles for your happiness.

Day 18 – Play with your pet

Don’t have a pet? Play with someone else’s dog or cat. When you see how happy they are, you’ll automatically feel a part of their happiness.

Day 19 – Tell someone how much you love them

How long has it been since you’ve told your parents, siblings or friends how much you love them without any reason? Too long, right? This is exactly what you’ll do today.

Day 20 – Try to smile as much as possible

This is the day in which you make it your goal to smile as much as possible. Start by putting a fake smile on your face and it will turn into a real one in no time.

Day 21 – Go through your old photos or diaries

Reliving some of your happy memories will make your day a lot better. And the best way to do so is to go through your old photos and diaries.

Day 22 – Avoid any type of drama

Today is the day in which you decide to avoid any type of drama. A day in which you are extra careful not to get yourself involved in anything stressful.

Day 23 – Think positive

When you come to think of it, you can’t call yourself a pessimist. But you could look at things a little more positively from time to time and this is the day to do so.

Day 24 – Forgive and let go

You are still holding some grudges? Still carrying some emotional baggage from the past? Still resent some people for doing you harm? Today is the day in which you pick one person and find the strength to forgive them for hurting you. You don’t have to tell them that they have your forgiveness because you are not doing it for them—you are doing it for yourself.

Day 25 – Dress up

Pay special attention to the way you look. Do your hair and your make-up the best way possible. Once you look better, you’ll also feel much better.

Day 26 – Start your day with a dance

You are cranky and nervous when you have to get up early? The best way to change this is to start your day with a dance. Or finish it this way instead.

Day 27- Buy yourself some flowers

How long has it been since you’ve gotten a bouquet of your favorite flowers without any apparent reason? I would say too long. So, what are you waiting for to buy them yourself?

Day 28 – Make physical contact

Kiss the guy you like. Hug the person next to you. Have sex. Whatever you think is best—just have some form of physical contact with a person you care about.

Day 29 – Make someone else happy

Carry out a random act of kindness. Help someone out because making others happy will make you happy as well.

Day 30 – Do nothing

It’s time to reward yourself for successfully completing your 30-day happiness challenge. And the best way to do so is to spend an entire day doing nothing. And I mean literally nothing. Don’t get out of bed and instead recharge your batteries!

My approach is eclectic and holistic with a focus on mindfulness. I have received certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (trauma), among others. I spent over 10 years at the Veteran’s Administration in Louisville, KY, working as a psychotherapist with veterans of all ages and genders on a wide variety of issues. Prior to that my focus was on young adults and their families and older adults dealing with loss. Individuals have met with me for help to address depression and anxiety, grief, trauma and relational issues as well as work-related/everyday stressors. The therapeutic process provides a safe place for the client, in collaboration with their therapist, to process distress, discover areas of “stuckness” and move forward into a life of increased meaning and joy. Accepting our imperfections and practicing self-compassion can be a difficult as well as rewarding process. I have lived and worked in different areas of the country, have come to understand how regional differences affect our outlooks and appreciate the contrasts. I have relished the opportunity to assist clients as they carry the burdens of life. It would be my privilege to hear your story.
