32 Things I Am Most Thankful For In Life

Every now and again, I catch myself thinking about life and how much there is to be thankful for every day. There are so many things that we probably take for granted without even realizing it, things that make our life worth living.

I thought about everything that made me happy and realized how many amazing things I have in this life, that I don’t appreciate as much as I should. Every single thing in this world that makes me happy is a thing I am profoundly grateful for and this is why I decided to make a list of all those things, to inspire myself and others, whenever life brings me down.

This is to prove to myself and to anyone reading this that no matter how challenging it might seem at times, there is always something to be thankful for. There is always something to remind you why you were put on this earth.

So here are some things that make me happy and, above all, thankful to be living this life.

My family is the first thing that comes to mind when I think about how thankful I am. Where would I be without them? They are the core of everything that keeps me going.

2. Sisters.

Knowing I have them is knowing that I have people with me for the rest of my life. Through thick and thin. Forever and always. How amazing is that?

3. Friends.

I surround myself with people who I know I can count on no matter what. Those few really close friends that I keep around me are like chosen family to me and life wouldn’t be the same without them.

4. Music.

It’s what I turn to whenever I feel down. Music is always there to cheer me up and I can’t imagine who I would be if music wasn’t a part of my life.

5. Love.

There is not a more beautiful feeling in this world than love. Be that love for your partner, family, or friends. It’s the most exquisite and fulfilling feeling and what keeps my world going around.

6. Dogs.

My dogs are my world. They are the most amazing creatures and my instant medicine when I’m in need of comfort! Just the thought of those two precious souls and my heart just melts. I’m so lucky and I can’t wait to add to the bunch.

7. Choice.

The fact that I get to choose who I am and do whatever it is that I feel passionate about is a privilege I will never take for granted. Things may not always be to our pleasing but you always have a choice in everything you do.

Being able to do what I love for a living is a blessing. No matter what your job is, be thankful it provides you with a roof over your head and food on your table. Not everyone is that lucky.

10. My nieces.

I love them so much. They make me so happy and excited to have children of my own and knowing they will be there for my kids like I have always been there for them is the best part.

I am thankful for the opportunity to travel from time to time. Exploring the world and seeing different, beautiful things around the world is one of the most amazing things about life.

12. Sunshine.

Does this even need explaining? Being outside on a warm, sunny, day, when the sun is hitting your face, is such a beautiful feeling and makes you radiate for no apparent reason. Just pure happiness.

13. Health.

I am thankful for my health and the health of my nearest and dearest. Never take for granted being alive and in good health. It can be taken away from you just like that.

25. Sleep.

I feel like sleep could solve any problem I have. Am I sad? I can sleep it off. Did I spend the day running errands? I’ll sleep and relax a little. Did my boyfriend annoy me? I’ll sleep and forget about it for a few hours. So much thankfulness for sleep.

There are so many bad things happening in this world and so much negativity going on, this is why I appreciate kindness so much! Being kind is so easy! And it can make somebody’s day, because you never know what somebody is going through! Be kind to everyone!

My approach is eclectic and holistic with a focus on mindfulness. I have received certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (trauma), among others. I spent over 10 years at the Veteran’s Administration in Louisville, KY, working as a psychotherapist with veterans of all ages and genders on a wide variety of issues. Prior to that my focus was on young adults and their families and older adults dealing with loss. Individuals have met with me for help to address depression and anxiety, grief, trauma and relational issues as well as work-related/everyday stressors. The therapeutic process provides a safe place for the client, in collaboration with their therapist, to process distress, discover areas of “stuckness” and move forward into a life of increased meaning and joy. Accepting our imperfections and practicing self-compassion can be a difficult as well as rewarding process. I have lived and worked in different areas of the country, have come to understand how regional differences affect our outlooks and appreciate the contrasts. I have relished the opportunity to assist clients as they carry the burdens of life. It would be my privilege to hear your story.
