5 Things You Should NEVER Do After A Breakup

Yup, surviving a breakup sucks. Everyone deals with it differently.

However, there are some things we tend to do after a breakup that do nothing but harm us, and we need to get rid of those nasty, bad habits.

And no, by bad habits I don’t mean you should give up that ice cream bucket and stop crying immediately.

There are things you do to yourself that are even worse than that.

1. Taking anything to the extreme

It’s normal that at the beginning of the process, all we want to do is cry, sleep, eat, drink, go out, or anything else we feel like overdoing after a while.

However, it’s not okay if you’re still in your dark room full of chocolate boxes and dirty tissues, watching all 10 seasons of your favorite TV show over and over again.

It’s not okay that you get drunk every night so that you can’t perform daily activities. It’s not okay if you keep gaining weight because you’re still eating away your pain.

Doing anything to the extreme is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Eventually, you lose your sense of time and you forget who you really are.

Don’t get lost in these bad habits. Try to stay strong and survive the bad days. With a healthy mind and body, you will get out much stronger, even from a shitty experience such as a breakup.

2. Calling and texting your ex

STOP. IT. RIGHT. NOW. Block their number. Turn off your phone. Disconnect from the internet. Take some time and preoccupy yourself with something else. But, don’t touch the damn phone and look for his number.

The truth is, you’re just making things worse. You will need to go through a period of detox and you shouldn’t make any contact with your ex.

It’s terribly difficult to fight this urge to stay in contact and to say just one more thing, but you will have to do it if you want to heal yourself.

3. Binge drinking

Drinking away the pain is a common way of going through a breakup. You should keep in mind that this is just a temporary solution and that you will feel even worse once you get sober.

Alcohol does make the pain go away for one night maybe, but the next day you will have to deal with lots of other troubles besides your breakup.

Think about yourself and your health. It’s easy to forget how important it is to take care of ourselves when our world is falling apart. Tell that crazy best friend you don’t want to go through another drunk night and that you should do something else.

4. Blaming yourself

You need to stop blaming yourself for that horrible breakup whether you feel guilty because you broke someone’s heart or you over think about what you did wrong that messed up your relationship. Making yourself look like a bad guy won’t help.

Of course, you should think about your previous relationship as some kind of a lesson on love, and you should sum up the things once your head is clear.

I said once your head is clear, not now when you see yourself as your own worst enemy. Seriously, stop it. If you need help, you should talk to someone who can give you some nice advice and make you feel better.

5. Looking for closure

When it’s done, it’s done. You don’t need to go through any more drama. Sometimes, you’re just torturing yourself by opening the wounds repeatedly. Your ex doesn’t owe you closure.

You need to get your peace of mind by yourself. Both of you should put the past relationship behind and move on. Don’t waste time seeking answers anymore. Go and seek your next happiness.
