Top 18 Reasons To Be Happy Right Now, No Matter What

Do you consider yourself to be happy in general?

Let’s face it – this is one of the toughest questions all of us face sooner or later.

Yes, happiness can mean different things, but the truth is that acquiring it is every living person’s final goal.

Being happy means you’ve made it. It means that you’ve found purpose in life and that you’ve succeeded in outnumbering the bad moments with the good ones.

However, sadly, most people never manage to achieve true happiness.

They chase it or patiently wait for it, but never seem to get it, despite all of their efforts.

Well, the problem is that they don’t know that happiness is not a destination, it’s a journey. Most importantly, it’s a choice

Choosing to be happy right now is a life-changing decision that will make your entire world better and make every single day of your existence worth remembering.

One of the reasons to be happy quotes says: “Don’t focus on the things that steal your joy. Count the many reasons you have to be happy.”

So, according to this, there are so many reasons to be happy. However, it is up to you whether you manage to find them or waste your energy on negative thoughts and emotions.

Will you make every day of your life worth remembering or let life pass you by?

The choice is all yours!

Nevertheless, we’re here to give you a hand and remind you of all the things that should make you happy.

No, we won’t give you 100 reasons to be happy, but I think that this list is more than enough.

18 Reasons To Be Happy

1. You’re alive

The thing all of us often forget to cherish is our gift of life.

Come on, you’ve beaten a battle with 200 million competitors just to get the chance to be born and that fact alone is worthy of you feeling like one of the happiest people in the world.

Besides, whatever problems you might be having at this moment, you’re breathing, aren’t you? And that is a privilege many would like to have.

You’re not hungry, you don’t live in a war zone, and you don’t expect a bomb to drop on your house every second.

You’re not scared of epidemics and you don’t live in a third world country, which is without doubt a blessing.

I know that your life sometimes gets in a rut, which probably annoys you, but trust me that your boring routines are exactly the reasons why to be happy.

You see, many people would kill to have the ability to wake up every morning to go to a job they don’t especially like, be annoyed by their loved ones all the time, come home, and go to sleep peacefully every night.

Many would give anything to trade places with you right now to have the chance to fight all the battles you’re fighting and have all the problems you’re having, even though you see them as a huge deal.

2. You’re reading this

If you’re reading this, you’re damn happy. Sounds funny, right? But it is the truth.

First of all, it’s clear proof that there is nothing wrong with your eyesight.

Secondly, you were educated enough to know how to read, Google things, and use social media and the internet without any trouble, and you don’t have any reading or learning disorders.

Besides, you’re using some device to read this article, aren’t you? It doesn’t matter if you’re scrolling through these pages on your smartphone or if you’re using your desktop computer or laptop at home or work – just by having internet access and owning or having access to devices like these makes you pretty damn privileged.

I know you’ve probably never thought of things this way and that you think that owning a tablet, smartphone, or laptop with access to the entire internet, Google, and all possible social media is normal in today’s world, but believe me, it’s not something you should ever take for granted.

In fact, this fact alone makes you happier than most people on the globe.

It means you have enough money to afford these gadgets and at the same time, it’s also a sign that you live in a completely free country that doesn’t limit your internet usage.

3. You have a home

You likely have a house loan or are paying rent, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a place you can call home.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still living with your parents, alone, with your partner, kids, or with a roommate – the fact is that you have a bed of your own and that there is a place you can call home.

Let’s be honest – coming to this realization makes you a lot calmer than you were a minute ago and it gives you this incredible sensation of peace and safety.

And what more does an average human being needs to feel happy?

4. All of your problems are resolvable

A long time ago, I heard a saying: If something won’t matter five years from now in the future, it doesn’t deserve five minutes of your time in the present. And this can’t be truer.

I know there is a lot going on in your life right now and you probably think your problems are the biggest in the world.

Maybe you’re experiencing a painful breakup, in the middle of a family emergency, or stuck with a job you don’t enjoy doing – either way, all of us sometimes go through hard times that make our existence seem unbearable.

However, the point is that all – or at least most – of your problems are temporary. They have a solution and they can all be fixed.

Whatever you’re going through, it will go away and you will feel better.

Not only that, you’ll also probably one day end up laughing at all the things that are making you cry right now.

5. Every day is an opportunity to be better

It doesn’t matter if you screwed up, failed, or disappointed yourself today.

No matter how old you are, you still have your entire life ahead of you, which means that you still have countless opportunities to make things right and improve yourself.

You’re the only person who can determine how to use them.

It depends on you whether you’ll use tomorrow to grieve over what happened today or use it to be better and correct your mistakes.

6. You can be whoever you want to be

The beauty of life is in the choices it gives you. No matter the family you were born into, the education you have, the background you’re from, the past you have, and the emotional baggage you carry around, you always have the opportunity to reinvent yourself and become the person you always dreamt of being.

It’s never too late to make some positive changes in your life, start over, and reach your full potential.

It’s never too late to be who you want to be and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

7. You have good health

Good health is another thing most of us take for granted, until we lose it.

When you’re healthy, you think that you’ll remain that way forever and don’t see it as something to look forward to every single day.

However, being physically and mentally healthy is a blessing not many have.

Sadly, most of us learn to appreciate our health only when we lose it and that is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.

So, be different and be better. Be happy for the fact that you’re healthy and be grateful for all the things you can accomplish thanks to that.

8. You’re beautiful

There’s not one person in this world who is completely satisfied with their looks.

Even if others think of you as physically attractive, there are always some positive changes you would like to make about yourself, if you had the possibility.

This is especially the case with girls – there’s always that actress or supermodel whose waist, legs, eyes, or hair you’d like to have.

However, mark my words when I tell you that none of this is necessary.

Take it from when I tell you that you’re beautiful just the way you are – even though you might not see yourself that way.

Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there’s someone out there who thinks of you as the most attractive person in the world.

Besides, what’s more important than your appearance is your personality, which is even more beautiful.

The happiest people feel beautiful because they know that their heart and soul are gorgeous. And that is something no plastic surgery can change.

9. And beauty is all around you

However, beauty is not just within you, it’s everywhere you look as well. And that’s another reason for you to be happy.

You see, the difference between sad and happy people lies in the fact that the latter see beauty in every little thing they encounter during a random, normal day.

The birds singing in the morning, seeing a shooting star, going on a road trip with their best friend, hearing their favorite song on the radio, a child smiling at them, helping a stranger out, eating their favorite cupcake, seeing the snow fall for the first time in a year, going to the beach, spending the day with their loved ones

Even though these are all regular, everyday stuff, happy people find joy in them.

And that’s exactly what makes them a happier person, the ability to see the beauty in everything and enjoy every breath they take.

10. The best day of your life is yet to come

Remember all those good times you had in the past? All those moments you felt like you were on top of the world and could do anything you set your mind to?

Recall the happy moments? When you fell in love for the first time, when you graduated, or that one day that was simply perfect, without anything extraordinary happening?

Well, guess what: I’m not lying when I tell you that the best is yet to come and you still haven’t reached your full potential.

The best day of your life still hasn’t happened and that is something to be pretty excited about.

11. You don’t owe anyone anything

It’s one thing if you owe a bank some payments or borrowed some cash from your best friend to make ends meet, because according to that logic, most of us are in some kind of debt.

However, when I tell you that you don’t owe anyone anything, I’m not talking about finances, I’m talking about some other, bigger things.

You see, everything you’ve accomplished, you’ve done it yourself. Even when you made mistakes, they were your mistakes and you stood up for them.

You can sleep peacefully at night, knowing that there’s nobody out there waiting for your gratitude, explanation, or apology.

You don’t have to thank anyone for your own successes and you don’t have to repay any debts, because nobody else brought you to where you are today.

12. You’re loved

When you first hear the word love, the first thing that comes to mind is probably romance.

So, if you don’t have a healthy love relationship, you automatically assume that you’re not loved.

However, just because you don’t have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, it doesn’t mean that you’re not loved.

Just look around you and I’m sure that you’ll find more people who love you than you think.

You’ll see your family, your best friend, your coworkers. You’ll notice that you’re surrounded by many who deeply and honestly care for you – all those who would give you a hand if you needed it.

And having that in your life is a treasure you should cherish and be happy about.

13. You won many battles

Even though you might not see it right now, the truth is that, if you look back, you’ll notice that you’ve actually managed to overcome many obstacles you initially thought would knock you down.

You overcame a lot of things, defeated yourself many times, and won many more battles than you could count.

So, I guess you’re way stronger than you think. Yes, you’ve likely been through a lot, but your scars have made you become the person you’re today and that’s something you should definitely be proud of.

Be proud of yourself for everything you accomplished, every heartbreak and betrayal you survived, and all the times you succeeded in rebuilding yourself and picking yourself up.

For every time you thought you reached rock bottom but managed to rise up, more powerful than ever.

14. Tomorrow is always a new day

No matter what happens today, tomorrow is always a new day and a new chance for happiness.

It is perfectly okay if something bad is going on in your life at this moment or if you’re feeling low – there’s always hope that the tables will turn and you’ll get out of it.

There’s always a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel, even when you don’t see it, and something that will help you overcome these hard times you’ve gotten yourself into now.

No matter how broken you might think you are, I promise you that you will heal and that sooner or later, you will leave all of your pain in the past, right where it belongs.

Remember that there is nothing lost just yet and nothing to be sad about!

15. Life is unpredictable

Some of us enjoy the rut of every day. We enjoy being in our comfort zones, without anything or anyone disturbing us.

However, what should make you happy is the fact that life is unpredictable.

Yes, never knowing what will happen next can be scary, but all the possibilities that the future brings is also exciting.

Not knowing what to expect is actually the most beautiful part of our existence in this world.

You see, you can’t tell whether your lifelong dream will come true in a week from now, if you’ll meet your soulmate tonight, and whether your entire life will magically fall in place by next month.

In fact, all you can do is keep a positive outlook, be optimistic, and hope for the best.

And isn’t that the best: having the ability to be happy about everything that’s about to come and daydreaming about the way your life will turn out?

16. Your curses were actually blessings

While you’re going through some hard times, you only see its disadvantages.

You focus on a lot of things that are holding you down – the struggles, the pain, and the tears – and you can’t help but wonder why these things have to happen to you.

Nevertheless, the truth is that you should be grateful for every stepping stone along the way, every obstacle, and every mountain you had to climb to achieve your goals. And you know why?

Because all of them made you become the person you are today and the human being you were destined to be all along.

Sometimes, what you think is the worst thing that could ever happen to you is actually the best.

Sometimes, what you thought was your worst curse turns out to be your biggest blessing.

17. God always knows the way

It doesn’t matter if you’re religious or not and in what you believe, I know that deep down, you know there is this higher force who’s showing you the right path.

No, this doesn’t mean that you’re not in control of your own life, just that God always knows best and He’s showing you the way, even when you’re convinced you’re surrounded by nothing else besides darkness.

This is definitely something you should be happy about: having a guardian who loves you that much, a divine creature who protects you and keeps you safe even from your own bad choices, and someone who’ll always give you a hand when you need it the most and never leave you alone.

You should be happy about the fact that there’s a God who knows what’s good for you, has a bigger plan for you, and isn’t giving you the things you want but the things you need at exactly the right time.

18. You’re the only person who can create your own happiness

However, that doesn’t mean that you’re not in charge of your own happiness.

Once you realize that no one can make you sad unless you allow them to do so – once you recognize how much power over your life you’re holding in your own hands, things will be much easier for you.

You see, you can’t control most life circumstances nor how different people will treat you.

What you can control is how you react to everything going on around you and you have full control over who you let become a part of your world.

The moment you see that you’re the only creator of your happiness – the moment you make a life changing decision to take your life in your hands, I assure you that everything will automatically become better and that you’ll become way happier than you ever were.

My approach is eclectic and holistic with a focus on mindfulness. I have received certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (trauma), among others. I spent over 10 years at the Veteran’s Administration in Louisville, KY, working as a psychotherapist with veterans of all ages and genders on a wide variety of issues. Prior to that my focus was on young adults and their families and older adults dealing with loss. Individuals have met with me for help to address depression and anxiety, grief, trauma and relational issues as well as work-related/everyday stressors. The therapeutic process provides a safe place for the client, in collaboration with their therapist, to process distress, discover areas of “stuckness” and move forward into a life of increased meaning and joy. Accepting our imperfections and practicing self-compassion can be a difficult as well as rewarding process. I have lived and worked in different areas of the country, have come to understand how regional differences affect our outlooks and appreciate the contrasts. I have relished the opportunity to assist clients as they carry the burdens of life. It would be my privilege to hear your story.
